As a photographer or graphic designer, Photoshop action are one of the handiest and time-saving tools. These tools are like magic, allowing one to transform the designs and photos with a single click. In this guide, we explain how to install and use both Photoshop action and how to make one.
What are they?
A photoshop actions are a series of steps recorded by the creator. The series of steps can be reapplied at any time. In summary, it allows an individual to recreate the end product without having to go through the series of steps every time. They act like shortcuts.

Action tools are important. They help people save time and help you speed up your workflow. With actions, one can bypass frustrations and have fun playing around with different looks just by a click of a button.
How to install actions
There different ways to install actions. Follow the below steps to get started.
1. Firstly, choose the actions to work with.
2. Next download the zip file containing the actions and unzip the file. This should reveal a new folder containing the .ATN file.
3. Next, choose to drag it directly to your Photoshop window or use the action panel drop down to select the file and load it on. That’s it.
How to make actions
Before you start editing your photo, you will probably need to tell the program that you would want to create an action. Essentially, you have to go through the following methods to ensure you record the steps.
Step 1: Locate and select File>Open and identify the photo you want to sketch an effect on
Step 2: start recording the Photoshop action
Go to windows>actions. Once the action panel is up, select Crete New Action and fill in the required information. Once ready to start editing, hit on the Record button in the Action Panel.
Step 3: Increase the Canvas size
To do this, click on Image> Canvas Size, you will be prompted to insert the current Canvas Size with an option to change it. Select the size that appeals for you.
Step 4: Create a new layer
Once you increase the Canvas size, go to Layer>New> Layer. Here, you will notice the new layer in the Layers panel, however, it is grayed out, and it does not appear on your workspace.
Click on the Paint Bucket tool from the left-hand toolbar and select the white color in the background and Foreground colors selector at the bottom of the toolbar and to fill the new layer color. Ensure you rearrange your layers.
Step 5 Turn your image Black and white
To convert your image to black and white, ho to Image>Adjustments>Saturation/Hue and take your saturation to-100%.
Once you set your image to black and white, there are a few steps that you will need to follow before you can start sketching your image.
1. Create a Layer Mask
From the Bottom Layers Panel, with a photo layer selected, click on the square cut out like icon. This is the icon that will help you create a layer mask.
2. Select a Brush
From the right-hand side toolbar, pick the right brush for you. You can achieve this by clicking on Window>Brush settings to open more preferences for the brush tool. You can as well achieve this by clicking F5.
3. Sketch your photo
Just play around with the brush until you find one that matches your needs. Always ensure that foreground color is white. Besides, mask the layer for your see what you’re altering. As you draw your sketch, ensure you change the opacity and brush size to create depth within your photo.
4. Crop your photo
Once you’re satisfied, use the rectangle tool to select the portion you want. Once selected, go to images> crop. Now you have a finished product.
How to use Actions

1. Select the layer that you want the actions to be applied to.
2. From your panel, select the action you want to use.
3. Uses the play button situated at the bottom of the panel. Whatever the layer you selected, the action will be applied.
