1. Basic shoot
This is a foundation for many of the wrestling takedowns. When you take a short that is sound, it will take you to the opponent quickly allowing you to initiate a defence. In order to perform a good shot on your opponent, you need to change your level first.
Drop down to be at a lower level than your opponent while at the same time stepping forward with your knee drooped by the dominant leg. What follows is to carry your momentum while putting your knee between your opponent’s legs.
Close down the distance between you in one fluid motion in order to take control of your opponent’s legs and quickly perform any number of takedowns.
Double leg takedown
This is one of the most important takedowns moves every couch will wish to teach any beginner. To perform this, you have to shoot in your opponent and grab both legs at the knee level with your head on his or her hip. You have to counter going forward by pulling your opponent’s legs.
Single leg takedown
To perform a single takedown, you need to shoot and aim for one of your opponent’s leg, most preferably the lead leg since it is closer to you and less defensive. This is followed by placing your inside hand next to his or her foot. This makes your opponent lose balance, trip to the mat and take control of the position to earn two takedown points.
